The four noble truths are the basic Buddhist teachings on the actual human condition. Dukkha frequently translated as "suffering" literally means "dissatisfactory" or "frustrating". This so-called "bad news" has led to misconstrue Buddhism as pessimistic but the message is inherently optimistic; it contains the real possibility, of spiritual rebirth and the end of suffering.
