October 1, Friday and October 2, Saturday: Impermanence and Aging with Luisa Montero-Diaz
Impermanence, the ever changing nature of phenomenon, is at the core of the Buddha's teaching. Impermanence is not a uniquely Buddhist insight. Change is a central feature of life. Reality is not static, but dynamic. It can be exhilarating, frightening, exhausting, or relieving. It can spark sadness or happiness, resistance or grasping. The beauty of flowers, the buzz of bees, a sunset's glory, these bodies, our homes and cars, monuments - all undergoing change. And the contents of our minds too - constantly moving. The Buddha implored us not just to talk about impermanence, but to use it as an instrument to help us penetrate deeply into reality and obtain liberating insight. In fact, according to the suttas, the Buddha's last words were "Change is inherent in all component things. Work onward with diligence."
Luisa Montero-Diaz has been practicing and teaching meditation for over 20 years. She completed the first three-year Community Dharma Leadership program offered by the Spirit Rock Meditation Center. Luisa has been affiliated with Insight Meditation Community of Washington, DC since its inception.
October 1, Friday, 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm: Impermanence and Aging with Luisa Montero-Diaz
Luisa will explore how the teaching of impermanence can help us through some of the suffering triggered by aging, not so much the physical unpleasantness; more so the reaction and hellipthe sometimes not so beneficial response to the aging process in this body.
Suggested Donation / dana: $5.00
Location: St. Peter's Parish Hall, 2nd & Mulberry Streets, Lewes, DE.

October 2, Saturday, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm: Impermanence and Aging with Luisa Montero-Diaz
In the Saturday Retreat, we will have a chance to "work onward with diligence"; to pause long enough to note and accept the changing nature of our moment to moment experience; to explore how working with impermanence can be helpful in dealing with the suffering that comes from our "stories" about aging. Using the tool of mindfulness and attention, we drop below our usual sense of "aging body", and open up to what is actually sensed and experienced just in this moment - moving from an outer, external experience to an inner experience that can be peaceful, accepting and light. The day will include silent and guided sitting practice, walking practice and dharma talks.
Suggested Donation / dana: Saturday Retreat, $45.00 with Lunch
Location: St. Peter's Parish Hall, 2nd & Mulberry Streets, Lewes, DE.
