Upcoming Events

We offer retreats and special events with invited teachers primarily from the Insight Meditation tradition, often from our affiliated Insight Meditation Community of Washington, DC [IMC-W].

The retreats are held at the Lewes Library, St. Peter's Parish Hall or at the Biden Center in the Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes.  The retreat is an excellent format for deepening one's practice.

Here is the current upcoming schedule:

IMC-Lewes Book Group and IMC-Lewes Dharma Study Group

We have two groups: The Book Group selects different dharma / Buddhist oriented books to read and usually has a facilitator who leads a discussion. The Dharma Study Group focuses on a particular Buddhist teaching and studies it in depth.
The groups meet on aternative Mondays from 5:00pm to 6:00pm at St. Peter's Parish Hall, Lewes.

Unconditional Presence with Jon Waterman

Our suffering is rooted in not realizing who we are. When we experience how the mind really is, underneath all the mental “junk” we carry, we can bring pieces of the luminous calm mind back into our daily lives, we can undermine our negative habits, and live fully in the present. Jon will explore how the practices of unconditional presence and compassion can awaken us and free us to live from the love and awareness.
Jon Waterman began practicing yoga and meditation since the 70s. His retreats focus on strengthening continuity of present moment awareness by combining mindful movement, insight dialogue & meditation techniques. Jon has a personal coaching practice and is a founding partner of Mind Body Health Associates, a group providing mindfulness based stress reduction programs.

The Dharma of the Here and Now with Erik Knud-Hansen

It is essential to sit still and foster more stillness of being rather than allowing the desiring mind to chase after what is inherently unsatisfying. This is the door to awakening insight and compassion, to understanding and strengthening the observing power of mind to better look within and see for oneself the nature of human beings.
Eric will include some guided meditation, explanation of the topic, and time for questions, particularly in the Sat program.
Erik Knud-Hansen has practiced and taught deep silent retreats since 1972. He has experience and knowledge of a broad range of Buddhist traditions, as well as Taoism and Advaita Vedanta.

Suggested Dana / *Donation Policy
In these difficult economic times, we want to reiterate our financial policy for our suggested donations (dana) for our full day retreats and half day programs as well as Friday talks and other events.
IMC-Lewes is committed to offering teachings to all, regardless of ability to pay. We offer a limited income discount of 50% for all our programs and events – no questions asked. Please do not hesitate to contact us or simply show up at the door and provide the donation that works for you. Also, if your budget is tight and you really cannot offer much or anything, we warmly welcome your attendance.
Hence, we use the word “suggested”.
For your information, the donations we receive pay for space rental, donations to our teachers, and misc. expenses so any help is appreciated (even a few dollars is helpful).

What is dana? In the Buddhist tradition, the teachings are considered so precious as to be priceless. Thus they are given freely, with the opportunity to offer voluntary donations. Dana is the ancient Pali word for “spontaneous generosity of the heart”. The very act of giving benefits the person who gives, for it opens the heart, lessens self-absorption, and serves the well being of others. Accepting the offers of generosity is also part of generosity practice.

Please note you may also only attend mornings of our full day retreats – suggested dana $23 (the limited income discount policy also applies). Thank you for your generosity. We have wonderful programs coming up, everyone is welcome to join us, no matter what your circumstances or experience.
Briefly:
• Limited income discounts are available for all our programs – 50% off our suggested donation or any amount that you are able to offer.
• If your budget does not allow for any dana, that is fine with us, we warmly welcome your attendance.
• You may also only attend mornings of our full day retreats – suggested dana $23 (limited income discount also applies).
• Suggested dana for Friday night Talks and Other Events: $5.00. • Suggested dana for programs and retreats: half day $25 and full day $45, with lunch.
• We appreciate any donation you are able to offer.
